Frequently Asked Questions

CT uses X-Rays and is faster (minutes vs. 30u201360 minutes for MRI), making it preferable for emergencies and bony structures. MRI provides superior soft tissue contrast without radiation and is preferred for brain, spine, and joint assessment. Your physician will recommend the most appropriate modality.
Fasting for 4 hours prior is recommended for CT scans with contrast. For studies without contrast, fasting is generally not required. Drink plenty of water unless instructed otherwise.
Contrast is administered intravenously. You may feel a warm flush sensation as it is injected u2014 this is normal and passes quickly. Inform our staff of any prior contrast reactions, kidney problems, or metformin use.
The scanning time itself is 5u201315 minutes. With preparation and contrast administration the total appointment may take 30u201345 minutes.
CT scans involve a higher radiation dose than plain X-Ray, but are generally considered safe for diagnostic purposes. Our protocols use the lowest dose necessary to achieve diagnostic quality. Please inform our staff if you are pregnant.
