Frequently Asked Questions
The generally recommended schedule is annual mammography from age 40 for average-risk women. Women with a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors may be advised to begin screening earlier. Consult your gynaecologist or GP for personalised guidance.
Breast compression is necessary to obtain sharp, diagnostic-quality images and to reduce radiation dose. Most women experience temporary discomfort or pressure during compression. Scheduling your mammogram in the week after your menstrual period, when breasts are less tender, can help minimise discomfort.
On the day of your examination, avoid applying deodorant, powder, or lotion to the breast or underarm area, as these can appear as artefacts on the image. Wear comfortable, two-piece clothing for ease of undressing.
An abnormal finding does not necessarily mean cancer. Additional imaging (diagnostic mammogram, ultrasound, or MRI) or a biopsy may be recommended. Our radiologist will explain findings clearly in the report, and our team can assist with urgent follow-up arrangements.
The imaging procedure itself takes approximately 20 minutes. A written report from the radiologist is typically available within 24 hours.
